Background

  • With Seattle’s tech-driven economy expanding and the city hosting more large-scale conventions, an expansion was necessary.

  • Unlike traditional convention centers that spread horizontally, Summit utilizes a tiered vertical layout, creating efficient circulation and maximizing views of downtown Seattle.

  • Sustainability features: a green roof, high-efficiency energy systems, extensive daylight strategies, reduction of carbon footprint

  • Urban Integration: pedestrian-friendly entrances, a large public terrace and open plaza, and retail spaces at street level to enhance the neighborhood’s vibrancy

  • The Summit expansion faced multiple challenges, including funding hurdles and construction delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic (Originally set for completion in 2021)

  • A civic and cultural landmark that reflects the city’s forward-thinking identity.
